Americanized Mogul

The prototype locomotives were manufactured by the Schenectady Works of the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) in the United States from 1899 to 1907.  The former Kyushu Railroad Company in Japan imported these locomotives to modernize its line and about sixty of these locomotives were used successfully in both passenger and freight service.  This success was continued in Sanyo and Kinki prefectures following the nationalization of the various railways into the single JNR.  The Aster model represents a typical American-built locomotive and tender of that era.
