There are eight preserved Castles class locomotives in the UK .

 

Two at Didcot, Pendennis Castle, which having been repatriated from Australia is in total overhaul mode; and Earl Bathurst, which is out of ticket, but, complete, in the shed.   There are three at Tyseley; Clun Castle, which is soon to go into total overhaul mode. Nunney Castle, restored to main line status in May, And Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, due back to main line status next month (October 2008). Which leaves Defiant, at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre. Caerphilly Castle at the GWR Museum, Steam in Swindon, and Thornbury Castle, at Crewe, awaiting restoration.
